About

Maya is a skilled climate science communicator with a passion for climate adaptation and resilience. With a Master's degree in Environmental Change and Management from the University of Oxford, she has demonstrated her proficiency in science communication and research through extensive experience in public speaking and facilitation, research and knowledge brokering, and storytelling through creative content creation. She has a strong background in working in international environments and organisations including the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre. Maya has a specific interest in climate justice, climate adaptation, and resilient futures. In her last role as Junior Project Manager at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation (EMF), she translated technical circular economy data into digestible information for a border audience which was delivered on EMF's monthly Circular Economy Show, which has a global audience of over 5 million. She has also represented EMF in engagements with strategic partners and networks and delivered key learning programmes and events such as EMF's annual Summits of 2021 and 2022- both with a participation level of over 25,000 audience members in person and online. Maya has also facilitated learning programmes including introductory sessions to the circular economy for institutions like the University of Edinburgh and African Leadership University. Maya has also worked as a Junior Researcher for SHEAR Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre, where she led the compilation and formulation of knowledge products on pioneering research that focuses on adaptation and disaster risk management within the Science for Humanitarian Emergencies and Resilience program. Before this, she was a Programme and Education Officer at Tree Adoption Uganda, where she prepared promotional content for potential volunteers and donors, created fundraising campaigns for projects in Uganda, and assisted in project conceptualisation and execution. Finally, outside of her professional work, Maya has contributed to various organisations as a member, including the Climate Psychology Alliance BIPOC Group, the Oxford Climate Review's Magazine Anthroposphere and the Oxford Climate Society. She creatively explores the themes of climate justice through art and her work has been hosted in galleries from Abu Dhabi and Paris to the Oxford Natural History Museum. She believes in the power of creative climate communication and has collaborated with scientists including the Oxford Oceanography Group through the Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities, and has been an Art and Science Scholar with the NYU Centre for Global Sea Level Change.
